I'm not sure if this question is appropriate for Stack, but here goes. I got started in GIS using LightBox and then R. I really got started out of curiosity and thought it was a great way to learn GIS and R at the same time, and boy was it fun and enlightening. The problem is that the rest of the team I work with only has experience in Arc and I only have experience in R. I think I may be unstoppable if I learn both, but don't want to get started on the wrong foot. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I also have some knowledge of Python, which I understand may allow the linking of Arc and R.
My question is now that I have a solid grasp of GIS methods in R, how might I best go about learning ArcGIS? You can see an early part of a project I've been involved with, linking open-source geospatial and (private) health data (here).
