Using "While" iterator in ModelBuilder

I can't find examples of the "While" iterator being used other than this:

Using ArcGIS ModelBuilder with a "While" Iterator

Any links to examples would be appreciated. For my specific problem I'm looking to check if a any road segment is longer than 500m. If there is a segment longer than 500m it is split in half. Then repeat until no segment is greater than 500m.
