Surveyor - Major Rail Project
Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY:
As part of the wider Construction Management team of a major rail project, the Surveying team will be responsible for reviewing the boundary, topographic, high precision and land development surveying activities of the Contractors for accuracy.
The Surveyor will be responsible for reviewing and overseeing both field and office surveys and mapping products that meet or exceed schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
KEY DUTIES:
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Establishing primary horizontal and vertical control points including reference ties for establishing the points in the field
Recording measurements, rod readings and calculations in field books as the work progresses
Coordinating with the Contractor’s surveyor on work priorities and schedules
Checking the work by competing traverse closures and bench circuits
Reporting discrepancies or technical problems to Resident Engineer
Jointly measuring the completed work payment
Checking completed work for conformance to the line and grade required by the project plans in coordination with the inspectors assigned to that item of work
Checking the Contractor’s setting out to verify execution and accuracy
Maintaining the survey equipment in proper condition and checking the calibration frequently
Making computations necessary for line and boundary intersections, curvilinear intersections and curve calculations
Setting stakes for construction on the bases of plans prepared by designers and/or engineers
Measuring the ground as required by the client, including aspects such as small and large scale distances, angles and elevations
Skills
The successful candidate will meet ALL the essential criteria below:
ESSENTIAL
Bachelors degree
Minimum of 5 years surveying experience
Experience in use of modern survey instruments (preferably Leica)
Strong experience in Autocad Civil 3D and other IT software such as Microstation, and ArcGIS to interpret site features
Knowledge geographical information systems (GIS) to analyze and interpret site features
Demonstrated experience in and expert knowledge of laws affecting land surveying and boundaries
Excellent verbal and written English skills
DESIRABLE
Bachelors degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics or related field
Rail or related industry experience
A recognised diploma or certificate in Surveying (or acceptable equivalent)
