I want to visualise the strike and dip (essentially the same as aspect and slope) of measured rock faces in ArcScene: the idea is to have a coloured DEM of the field area, with an oriented rectangle wherever we have measurements of strike and dip. I can see this working by symbolising a rectangle wherever there is a measurement which is rotated around the x axis to show dip (slope) then around the z axis to show the strike (aspect). So two separate rotations of the same symbol based on the values of different fields.
I've tried everything I can think of in the symbology editor, but can't work out if this is possible, and if not, any other possible way of achieving the same result.
Edit: I realise I could symbolise each point by hand with a custom 3D character marker - but is there any way to get Arc to do it from field values?
Any ideas?
