I am using the MapLex label engine to place labels for a point feature class in ArcMap 10.2.2. I also have a layer containing text (place names) as annotations from a coverage feature class. I want to prevent the labels from overlapping the text.
For normal features I could use the "Label Weight Ranking" window and give that feature a high weight. However, for the feature to show up in that window it needs to have at least one label class (or at least so it seems). The text layer do not have the possibility of adding labels (possibly because it only contains annotations).
Is there some way to prevent MapLex from placing labels on the text? Can I perhaps convert the text to polygons somehow? Or any other ideas?
