I am working on a species distribution modeling paper that is implementing in MaxEnt. My species records display a high degree of spatial bias (closer to cities, roads, etc.) and I am trying to correct for this. One of the standard treatments of this data is to create a Kernal Density raster that represents the density of the species points in space. This I can manage in arcmap, however, there are specifics to the procedure that I have yet to find an approach that is possible in arcgis.
First off, arcmap uses a quadratic kernal function to create kernal density rasters, but I need the function to be Gaussian.
Secondly, the proper treatment treats the neighborhood cells which is weighted by a Gaussian kernal with a standard deviation of 200km. I can't find any documentation to tell me what standard deviation is the default in ArcGIS, nor can I find a way to change this if 200 km is not the default.
There is a toolset called SDMtoolbox that performs a Gaussian Kernal Density analysis, but I have found it to be incredibly finicky. In addition, there is no information given on tool specifics so I hesitate to use the tool for the purpose of publication.
Does anyone know how I can create a kernal density analysis based on a shapefile of species points with the above requirements?
My raster is projected in North Americans Albers and I am hoping to also use a radius of 30-100 km.
Thanks in advance. Kris
