Job Summary:
Assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in invasive procedure area, specializing in the care of patients undergoing basic and complex diagnostic catherization procedure in adult and/or pediatric patients with known congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.
Principal Duties:
1. Assist physician in performing all diagnostic and interventional procedures in adults and pediatric patients and assist vascular surgeons in percutaneous vascular procedures.
2. Monitor patients'blood pressure and heart rate electrocardiogram (EKG) using the cath lab monitoring
equipment during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in order to notify the physician if something appears wrong.
3. Explain testing procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
4. Prepare reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physician.
5. Observe gauges, recorder, and video screens of data analysis system during imaging of cardiovascular system.
6. Prepare and position patients for testing.
7. Obtain and record patient identification, medical history and rest results.
8. Attach electrodes to the patients'chests, arms, and legs. connect electrodes to leads from the monitoring system in the cath lab and set up the pressure transducers, lines, manifolds, and ensure that the pressure monitoring system is fully operating before starting diagnostic and interventional procedures.
9. Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians' orders or established protocol. Check, test, and maintain cardiology equipment making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation.
10. Set up and operate intravascular ultrasound machine (IVUS) and help physician in performing IVUS examinations.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor Degree - with at least 1 year minimum experience
3 years Diploma + Western European Certificate or license - with at least 2 years minimum experience
Training:
* Completion of cardiovascular technology diploma.
* Trained in all aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedure, including diagnostic catheterization, Interventional procedure, IVUS, pressure wire, IABP and temporary pacemaker technology.
