Hello Mappers,

I work as a GIS consultant in a university library, and my forte is data discovery and analysis -- I don't usually have much call to design really excellent looking maps.

But our Archives Dept. asked me to make a webmap to accompany a digital exhibit they recently launched about the March on Milwaukee -- a late 1960s civil rights struggle for fair housing in our city.

Here's what I came up with, with the help of CartoDB:

I welcome your feedback on any aspect of the map's design or usability!

One thing I struggled with was color scheme(s). I wanted the points to be different colors to distinguish among different types of events (and the white dots -- various headquarters for the activists). The head of the project really wanted the four representative marches to also appear with different colors. I struggled to come up with color schemes that would work harmoniously together.

The nice thing is that I can continue to refine the map design, and changes are reflected immediately.

Thanks in advance! I'm eager to thoughts about how I can improve this feature.
