“In 1772 Father Juan Crespi joined an expedition traveling north from Monterey to explore the harbor of San Francisco. He drafted a map of the bay and recorded in his diary the killing of a grizzly in the East Bay.”
What would become San Francisco appears at the lower right, just above the words “Mar del Sur”. *There’s actually a Crespi Street in San Francisco today.
