Help with chosing a projection

I am playing around with a distribution map of grain silos (aka grain elevators) across the state of NSW in Australia.

The standard projection I am used to using is the GDA Map Grid Australia, the official coordinate projection for use with the Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 which divides Australia into a number of 6 sec zones. NSW however is so large that it incorporates 3 zones, although I suspect most silos are within one zone.

Should I simply use that projection and not worry about the odd ones outside or try and use another projection (the NSW Surveyor General recommends Lambert Conformal Conic).

My maps are going to be c1:3000000 in order to view all the data so would minor inaccuracies in location matter??

Apart from mapping all the silos this exercise is being done as a bit of a learning exercise for me in dealing with large regional datasets.

Any thoughts and experiences would be welcome.

Cheers

Iain
