DigitalGlobe's next satellite, WorldView-3, is in a phased development process for an advanced, fourth-generation satellite capable of capturing 8-band multispectral high-resolution satellite imagery and a high-resolution panchromatic band.

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. will build the next generation commercial remote-sensing satellite for DigitalGlobe and ITT Corporation will build the imaging system with an expected launch date in late 2014.

WorldView-3 will bear a strong resemblance to WorldView-2 launched on October 8, 2009 in terms of its performance characteristics. The WorldView-3 satellite sensor will benefit from significant improvements including cost savings, risk reduction, and faster delivery for its customers.

DigitalGlobe satellites currently in orbit include QuickBird, launched on October 18, 2001; WorldView-1, launched on September 18, 2007; and WorldView-2, launched on October 8, 2009. The launch of WorldView-3, which will expand DigitalGlobe's orbiting constellation to four high resolution remote-sensing satellites, is expected in late 2014.
