Variable width buffers depending on surface area (Arcmap 10.1)

I know this is a pretty basic question but I couldn't find the answer myself, so here I go:

I need variable buffer widths depending on the surface area of the polygon (city) size.

For example: A polygon sized 100 km2 should have twice the buffer than a polygon sized 50 km2 (which would be 500M radius in this example) Arcmap 10.1
