Geological Survey of Norway – Trondheim (Norway) The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), based in Trondheim, is the central national institute for knowledge of bedrock, mineral resources, superficial deposits and groundwater of mainland Norway and of the near-surface geology of the Norwegian continental shelf. The survey’s tasks include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping, development and maintenance of databases, research, information activities and advice to governmental bodies and industry. The NGU staff of 225 includes representatives of 28 nationalities and 65 % of the staff are scientists. For general information about NGU’s organisation and mandate, see www.ngu.no Researcher Position in Landslide Mapping The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) is seeking to appoint a highly qualified and motivated geologist in its Landslide Team. The main task is to strengthen the work carried out on rockslide mapping. The candidate should have a good knowledge of GIS and additional remote sensing skills, preferentially with experience with photogrammetry. Work will focus on systematic mapping of unstable rock slopes using remote sensing techniques and intensive field work but also treatment of monitoring data and database work. Additional skills and experience in one or more of the following fields would be beneficial: modelling of run-out behaviour, remote sensing using ground-based or satellite-based techniques (e.g. dGNSS, LIDAR, RADAR), Quaternary geology, susceptibility mapping, and modelling of slope stability. The candidate should have a driving licence category B by the time of appointment. Applicants should have a PhD or at least 2-3 years of relevant experience.
