I've been searching partial or complete solutions to importing ASCII point data / CSV to GIS enviroment. My interests are in detail connected to importing survey data consisting of both points, lines and polygons with various attributes preliminary surveyed as points:
ID|X|Y|Z|CODE
Where the field "CODE" should consist of an abbreviated attribute for defining geo object (point/line/area), an attribute to give taxonomical attributes and an ID for a specific taxonomical entity.
In other words survey data that I seek to produce to points, lines and boundaries with rich individual attributes.
Does anyone know about some non-proprietary software or plugins for this kind of tasks? The specific automatized tasks that provice partial solution such as building lines or polygons or in the other hand query based command to divide singular codes separate attribute fields are quite easy to find. I am seeking to find a program that would do both without too much handicraft. This is most definately a classical case of a need for coding a small program to do simple stuff automatically. My problem is that I can't do it myself...
