As you may recall, I had some problem with the Mapnik toolchain about serving the whole planet.
I was thinking about this idea: if I divide the world in 4 macro-areas (like Cartesian quadrants on equator and grenwich median) and make 4 server, there is a software that redirect the incoming request to the correct server (and thus having like myserver.com/osm/4/23/12.png, and returning the image generated by their right server). It would be easier on table and load, and having 4 small machine is better than one big, for me.
