I've been given an assignment to measure the rates of coastal erosion and model future impacts of climate change for an area along the coast of the UK but the instructions are quite vague (that is pretty much the extent of them) and I would be extremely grateful for some guidance on a basic methodology I could follow. I have obtained historical maps for the study area which I plan to use to simply measure change over time, however i'm unable to understand what exact data is required and how to use this data to predict future change in coastline. I've spent a long time searching through papers, online GIS help and forums as well as additional material given by the lecturer but i'm still clueless and it's a bit disheartening.
Here are some additional details about what is required of me; Demonstrate the ability to generate, import, integrate and analyse data in order to answer a spatial question.
Select multi-thematic data that is sufficient and relevant to address the problem- both feature (spatial extent and scale) and attribute data (appropriate use of categories and classification methods).
Understand and explain the pattern of spatial phenomena observed relative to the application.
I would be extremely grateful for any help which can be offered as I really want to improve my GIS skills but I cannot grasp what is required of me.
