How to switch the region of an osm tile-server PROPERLY & how to reset update mechani

can anyone help me?

Thanks to this switch2osm manual I have been able to set up and run a tile server on my old machine for testing purposes. Up to some weeks ago it served custom mapnik-osm-style tiles for Berlin which I could access through Open Layers and the like.

Then I decided to go one step further by serving another german city instead of Berlin. I've managed to do so, i.e. I can now see the slippy map of the other city, but I've maneuvered the test server into serious trouble on the way because I cannot use the update mechanism any more.

To be more precise, I did the following:

  1. Deleted all tiles in /var/lib/mod_tile/default (that was because I did not want to wait for mod_tile to expire and/or delete all tiles -- after all, all of them would be outdated because they showed Berlin and not the new city)

  2. Emptied all the tables in the 'gis' database [planet_osm_nodes, planet_osm_line, planet_osm_point, planet_osm_point, planet_osm_polygon, planet_osm_rels, planet_osm_ways, planet_osm_roads]

  3. Downloaded a regional extract osm.gz2-file from geofabrik and used osmosis to set a bounding box and to load it into the 'gis' database

  4. Touched the planet-import-complete file

  5. Restarted renderd and apache

  6. sudo -u www-data /usr/bin/openstreetmap-tiles-update-expire

The update-expire script won't finish and throws an error every time try to use it:

rm: das Entfernen von /var/lib/mod_tile/dirty_tiles.4900 ist nicht m
