I am not too familiar with techniques, and was looking for ways to make a slope map for a given area. It ended with finding this site and posting the question.
We are in the process of zoning a new protected area in southern Patagonia. A forest law states that any forest on a slope steeper than 60% (about 30 degrees) has the highest protection status, ie intangible. Therefore, a map which indicates areas with slopes of 30 degrees or more would be very useful.
I found contour maps at www.google.com.ar/maps/ but so far no way to convert these contours into a map based on slopes. Obviously google know s.t. I do not know, like to obtain the contours.
Are there any sites available that provide a data set (*.kml etc) with contour info? and sites to convert it into slope maps?
thanks, Werner Argentina
