How to link service areas to the original point data in Arcmap 10.2?

Using the network analyst tool in Arcmap 10.2, I want to link service area polygons to the original point data that inspired them.

So I have data on the locations of several thousand retail sites and UK road network data (Meridan 2). I want to count the number of retail sites that are available within a 10 minute drive of each retail site (as a measure of local competition). I have generated 10 minute service area polygons around each site using network analyst. I have then transferred these shapefiles over to QGIS (as I'm more familiar with it), and used the 'points in polygon' tool to count the number of local competitors within each service area (using the point data for each retail site as an input). This produces a field with the number of competitors for each site in the attribute table of the service area polygons.

This all works fine, but the missing link is between the ObjectID of the original retail site data and the service area polygons that network analyst generates. I want to be able to transfer the 'competitor number' back to the original data, so that I can add it to my dataset (and run some regressions on it). Unfortunately, network analyst doesn't seem to transfer any information about the retail sites to the service area polygons that it generates.

I have been getting round this by copy-pasting the objectID of the retail sites into the attribute table of the service areas. This seems to work, as the service areas at least seem to be generated in the same order as the original retail sites. However, this is slow and I'm worried that the service areas aren't always generated in the same order.

Any solutions or possible workarounds would be incredibly gratefully received!
