How to add coordinates to an image in QGIS?

I use QGIS 2.10. I have a map image without any coordinate or boundary info. I need to convert it to kml file and before this, I need to add specific coordinate info for this map.How can I add boundary info in QGIS to an image and then convert it to polygon(raster to vector)? I don't know the exact terminology, so please don't mind if I use a mistaken word.
