"Handle bad layers" with spline plugin

I´ve been trying to use the QGIS Spline plugin and so far it was going pretty good, though I had a few bumps I got through with help.

But now, the layers I've worked with have dissappeared (or have they not?) under the Handle bad layer sign:



I did not moved, deleted, or renamed the layer or the project.

I've tried to bring the files back to life (since they "are" there) but QGIS refuse them:



I can do the lines again but I'd rather this not happens again so I'd love to know why this happened.

Any thoughts? Was it a plugin thing? why else could have this happened?
