GIS/ Geogriphical Interface System Engineer
Job Description
Reporting to Head of GIS team
Prepare/use appropriate computational methods, existing source documentation, ESRI software tools to develop, populate and manage GIS data on behalf of all Business Units (Potable Water, Waste Water and Sea Water Cooling)
May convert maps/design drawings and related information into different formats including the interpretation of survey bearings and distances to properly input new data to appropriate GIS layer for reference
Update the GIS according to modifications received from
Business Units or from Contractors working on behalf of BUs
Complete/Update the GIS by digitizing as-built drawings received from Marafiq or RC (Royal Commission) contractors related to new facilities
Perform quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) on GIS data by comparing information on digital maps to hardcopy information and checking on the field in coordination with the concerned BU
Compare survey data with current GIS information and update the GIS if needed
Visit sites to collect data, take required measurements and other information prior to developing a conceptual design. Submit to engineer for approval then prepare detailed design.
Take and record “as-built” measurements of existing facilities
Give to engineers GIS maps with all relevant information to perform hydraulic calculations
Carry out related duties such as training end-users, maintaining GIS tools, software and materials in proper order, making frequent back-up of GIS databases
Support end-users in their assigned tasks for related GIS problems
Provide yearly to BUs all network maps and thematic maps on BU requests
Follow all relevant operational procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental control procedures and instructions so that personal safety/the safety of others is not jeopardized and a minimum level of product/service quality and environmental impact can be guaranteed
Skills
Technical College Diploma / Graduate and GIS certificate in GIS and computerized graphics
Minimum experience of 5 years in GIS using ArcGIS 10x, covering piping, mechanical and civil works
Expert knowledge of ArcGIS software and technical library/archive and information retrieval systems
Fluency in spoken and written English
Communications skills for routine contact with other MaSa employees up to Superintendent level to obtain information, and for occasional contact with contractors to check drawings and measurements
