Here's an interesting one.
I am trying to create catchments/watersheds for each line segment in my stream network. I've managed to get the coordinates for all of the end nodes of the line segments to use as pour points. However where there is a confluence (meeting of two streams) the points overlap and therefore only one large watershed is created for the meeting of the lines and not each individual line. I have attached a screenshot of this.
One way to fix this would be to extract the coordinate of the vertex next to the end node or a node a set distance away from the end node. But I'm not sure how to do this, I've tried using the near tool on ArcGIS but this just gave me the same coordinate of the point.
I'm open to alternative methods to the one suggested. I'm using ArcGIS 10 and QGIS as I attempt to do this.
Thank you.
