Is it possible to have an external capabilities file in a Geoserver for custom filters, like time etc. I know you can do this in ArcGis, to have a external capabilities file, can be helpful when you need to have fields which the standard wfs get requests/filters don't have.

Describes the operations that the WFS server supports and the parameters for each operation. A WFS server may be configured not to respond to the operations listed above.
I'm assuming with Geoserver I'm able to modify the Operations Metadata file, and add custom parameters
