The Department of Global Health and Social Medicine seeks an epidemiologist to support the design and evaluation of large-scale intervention programs forming part of the core research and teaching activities of the Harvard Medical School Center for Global Health Delivery-Dubai. The Center has three concurrent missions: (1) to conduct and publish cutting edge health delivery research on innovative approaches to addressing health problems of critical importance to the region and world; (2) to train the next generation of scholars and practitioners from Dubai and the region in global health delivery; and (3) to enable Dubai to serve as an important regional hub for discussions and policy formulation on health problems of critical importance to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, the region, and the world. This position is employed by a Dubai-based affiliate of Harvard Global Research and Support Services Inc. (Harvard Global). Harvard Global is itself a wholly owned affiliate of Harvard University.

The successful candidate will strengthen the Center’s research program by working with the Center’s grant recipients, faculty and students to design studies, analyze and interpret data, and prepare scholarly publications in English. The ideal applicant will have expertise in at least one of the Center’s core topics, which include optimization of care delivery for diabetes and obesity, surgical diseases, infectious diseases (tuberculosis and hepatitis C viral infection) and mental illness. Because the Center will work across a breadth of topics including communicable and non-communicable diseases, the ideal applicant should be facile with the use and adaptation of epidemiologic research methods. The ideal candidate will be able to assist the Center in research study design and have a strong grounding in causal inference methodologies and longitudinal analyses. Teaching skills are important as the position will involve mentoring students and colleagues in study design and analysis of data. The applicant should have a minimum of five years of experience in the setting of a field-research project.

A doctoral degree in epidemiology or in public health with a minor concentration in statistics, or equivalent quantitative training, is required for this position. Successful candidates may be eligible for an appointment as Lecturer on Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
