The UAV Toolkit is an essential addition to IDL which allows a user to preprocess UAV data to account for sensors that may have band alignment issues.

The UAV toolkit is a complimentary, customer driven addition to IDL. Currently, only the MicaSense RedEdge sensor is supported, but additional sensors will be added if there is a large enough need.

Here are the primary routines included in the UAV Toolkit and a short description of their purpose. To see more information regarding the routines, download the extension and open the index.html file which is contained in the ZIP file. This index.html file will open the HTML documentation and has a lot of information regarding the routines below and details on the keywords to use each of them.

The documentation also includes information for how to install the UAV Toolkit, which just needs to be placed on IDL’s search path.

Band Alignment - This file contains the procedure BandAlignmentTask which is meant to perform band-to-band alignment on UAV imagery. This procedure was specifically developed for the MicaSense RedEdge sensor, which needs band-to-band alignment in order for accurate analysis to be performed. Note that the BandAlignmentTask is meant to be used in conjunction with software such as OneButton or Pix4D for generating orthomosaics. BY default the output from this procedure will be in a format for OneButton, but there are routine keywords to generate images that are compatible with Pix4D.

Convert OneButton Output to ENVI Formatted - This procedure can be used to convert multi-page TIFFs to ENVI Rasters with spatial references which can be useful to embed wavelength information and band names. This procedure also downloads 3-band (RGB) NAIP imagery that can be used as a base map if you are over the continental United States.

Generate CAM files - This procedure will generate a CAM formatted file from UAV imagery by reading in information from the image exif metadata. Depending on the metadata format, this routine might not always work.

Generating GPS files - Use this procedure to generate a GPS formatted file with the locations and orientations of the sensor when the image was taken. Note that because there are many different metadata formats, this may not work will all UAV data types.

UAV Toolkit Procedure - This procedure is used to restore the 'uav_toolkit.sav file' and should be included in IDL procedures to make sure that the other routines included in the UAV Toolkit are available in an IDL session.
