Calclulate the shade from a DSM and from sun elevation and azimuth angle

I have a mosaic of about 5000 tiles of aerial orthophotgraphy taken at different dates and thus with different sun angles. Furthermore, I have a Digital Surface Model (1 m resolution). My goal is to retrieve the shadows of the building, trees , ...

I'm looking for an efficient tool as I have about 3 billion pixels to process that takes as input 3 raster:

  • DSM
  • Sun elvation angle
  • Azimuth elevation angle
I'd like to have as output :

  • a binary file shaded/non shaded.
I've seen the following solutions:

  • GRASS r.shaded.relief
  • GDALDEM
  • ArcGis Hillshade with the option model shadom
Currently, the best results obtained were from the ArcGis Hillshade but the sun angle parameters have to be insert as a defined value and not as raster. Furthermore, I need to process a relatively big amount of data and I'm thus looking to something more efficient.

Any experience or advise?
