We have virtualized ArcMap in both Citrix and Remote Desktop Services environments. In both Citrix and RDS, when viewing a MXD that has a good amount of labels, the rendering is very slow.
On a local copy (that doesn't have a dedicated GPU), the rendering of the labels is much faster.
When labels are turned off, both virtual environments render comparable to the local copy. The drawing of the layers is very quick, but as soon as it gets to labels, it crawls in both virtual environments.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you have any suggestions for improving the performance of label rendering in Citrix and/or RDS?
We do not have a GPU in our Citrix or RDS servers. Since the local copy without a GPU renders much faster I'm not totally convinced it is the lack of a server GPU.
