Any ideas how to create an Ubuntu machine image backup?

Could anybody recommend a method or application to backup my ubuntu server setup? I used AWS in the past and liked how you could make an image and relaunch it whenever you messed up something on the ubuntu server. I now use a different host. Is there a way to create an image (or similar) and store it on my pc? My instance is running Ubuntu 14.04 server (64bit, 512MB RAM, 10GB disk size).

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.Ilona
