Adding Objects/Labels to Indoor Large Business Floor Plan

I have a PDF file of the internal floor plan of a large business building (~ 302x434 feet). This file has walls (exterior and interior), door swings, and furniture. There are no measurements or scales in the PDF itself; I physically measured the building. I am a GIS analyst by trade, but this is my first time ever dealing with an internal floor plan project like this.

What I need to do is simply add various objects and labels to the floor plan. I need to add the exact locations of things like fire alarms, fire extinguishers, security cameras, etc. This is just one example of something I'm shooting for:

I've already gone through the building, with a printout of the floor plan, and noted the locations of those things. Furthermore, I'd like to classify different rooms based on their function (meeting room, training room, etc.) in a similar fashion to this example.

I also would like to put the floor plan in Google Earth so that others can view the map and locations of the aforementioned items.

I've been researching, but I'm finding a lot of different answers and can't narrow down what would be the best.

I went with Microsoft Visio, because it seemed like a user-friendly option and, as I said, I've never dealt with floor plans before. Also, some of the door swings from the PDF were incorrect and I like Visio's ability to manipulate those types of things easily. The first thing I tried was converting the PDF to a CAD drawing (.dwg) and importing it into Visio. So I then attempted to convert the drawing into Visio objects, but the file was so large it kept crashing.

My hope in performing the above operation was that I could avoid having to trace over or redraw the floor plan drawing. Then I could simply just add the objects (fire extinguisher locations, etc.) from Visio's existing shape stencils. Ideally, I would like to remove the furniture objects (desks, chairs, etc.) which are present in the PDF document and just leave the walls, doors, and other items I'm adding.

I would love to have the end product look as good as Google's Indoor Map, but this is a private building and I can't share the floorplan.

Obviously I could just redraw everything in Visio, but if there is a way to simply convert the PDF into objects I can manipulate, I'd like to do that. I've also not ruled out just bringing the PDF into Photoshop and editing it that way. I just wanted to get feedback and find out what the best way to go about such a project would be.
