Role Summary
Reporting into IT Manager, your role will be to undertake a range of mapping tasks on a major rail project in Riyadh.
The successful candidate will coordinate GIS activities amongst all project departments and will be responsible for designing, operating, overseeing and maintaining the Riyadh Metro Geographic Information System (GIS).
Under general supervision, the GIS Support Engineer will perform duties a wide-variety of mapping and engineering support activities such as updating and/or creating maps and/or design drawings using geographic information systems (GIS) or computer aided design (CAD) technology; communicating with engineering disciplines; reading and/or interpreting maps, blueprints, survey documents, or sketches; proofing or comparing the information contained on maps/drawings with information from different sources; measuring distances, areas, perimeters, and angles; and uses computer applications to enter, query information.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Using appropriate computational methods, existing source documentation, ESRI and/orAutodesk software tools to develop, populate and manage GIS and/or CAD data
- Converting maps/design drawings and related information into different formats, including the interpretation of survey bearings and distances to properly input new data to appropriate GIS and/or CAD layer for reference
- Translating and inputting existing data such as hard copy maps, topographic maps, site plans and GPS data into a common format
- Comparing information on digital maps to hardcopy information and checks for accuracy. Comparing legal survey documents with current GIS and/or CAD information
- Providing access to department-specific GIS data through the GIS Utility
- Creating & managing GIS and/or CAD data documents and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures
- Meeting with other departments and/or agencies participating in the GIS program to discuss GIS data automation and management routines
- Assisting other employees within a department with access to, and development of, specific GIS and/or CAD data
- Producing high-quality maps and reports from GIS, CAD, and other related data. Querying, displaying and producing hardcopy output from GIS and/or CAD data for information
- Preparing mounts visual displays to be used in presentations
- Performing calculations (., area, distance, perimeter, etc.) using appropriate technical device. Verifying “error of closure” using appropriate device
- Managing data entered into the GIS database
- Reading and interpreting maps, manipulating and understanding digital land data
- Reviewing existing and incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality and completeness

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in the management of design for rail projects & will meet ALL the essential criteria below:
Essential
- Degree qualification in GIS, geography, urban planning or construction related field
- At least 3 years using GIS software on civil engineering projects
- Experience using ArcGIS software
- Good knowledge of databases and integration techniques with mapping software
- Proficient in geo-database design
- Considerable knowledge and experience with the techniques, practices, methods and procedures of computerized mapping and/or computer aided design
- Considerable ability to follow complex written and oral instructions on simultaneous assignments
- Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relations
- Considerable knowledge of ESRI and/or Autodesk software modules
- Considerable ability to read design drawings, maps, and sketches
Desirable
- Certification or qualification in GIS
- Conceptual knowledge of public transit planning and/or operations
- Ability to sketch concepts for graphic representation
