I have just upgraded to the latest model iMac computer after the hard drive on my old iMac dropped dead. I had been using Bootcamp to run Windows 7 on the old machine, but always found it a bit annoying that I had to reboot the computer to switch between the Mac OS and Windows. I am considering installing Parallels Desktop 11 on the new computer to get around this annoyance and was wondering if any forum members are using Parallels and how it compares to Bootcamp in regard to performance/speed. I will be using Global Mapper and Manifold on the Windows side and I have a couple of large databases that contain multiple GIS data layers and DEMs that I use frequently. Performance on the old machine (circa 2010 iMac) running Bootcamp with 8GB of RAM was less than optimal but not unbearably slow. The new iMac has 16GB of RAM and a faster processor, so I am hoping that performance will be better than it was before even if I decide to go with Parallels rather than Bootcamp this time around. What do you think? Bootcamp, Parallels Desktop or something else?
