I´m currently looking for any published references (preferably a scientific, ideally peer-reviewed paper) for the use of the terrain texture shading technique.
Background is that we start to use the TTS technique in our daily work (creating bathymetric maps) and have now the first papers submitted. On just came from review with some criticism on the usage of the TTS technique - basically it was not believed that it helps improving the interpretation of a submarine terrain. That´s off course stupid and we do know better but such reviewers you need to show that techniques, such as TTS and other information, are advanced techniques of cartography and enhance the informative value of a terrain map significantly (while it doesn´t matter if its submarine or on land).
So, I would be very happy if some of you would know a citable reference bacause I can´t find any via Google Scholar nor Science Direct nor Papers. A website or conference proceeding is in that case not enough (that we have cited already ;-)).
