Had to break out an old Windows XP from the IT closet to even get this to load, but I was surprised how well I was able to get around in it. Fortunately, I still had the 500+ page manual to refer to. Maptitude reads shapefiles okay, but the way the manual reads, I got the feeling it wasn’t their preferred format.

I played around in it a bit last night. This morning I even used this to query an address that someone from the phone company wanted verified (the customer had used an alternate street name).

I finally settled on this simple aerial map using a cd-rom we had here with our 1999 aerials. The XP wouldn’t unzip the 7GB sid file I had on the stick or read the 40gb GeoTiff either, though Maptitude says tifs are okay; a size issue no doubt. But the ‘99 aerials is what would have been used when they used this software. Our next batch wasn’t until 2005 and I’m sure we were onto ArcView 3.x by then.

I had to consult the manual a few times, especially on how to create a layout, but if given more time, I could get some mileage out of this if I needed to.
