This is another MapLift map, to replace the one currently used in the article on Norse Exploration of the Americas
What I did was make a globe with Natural Earth vector ocean and land in Illustrator, export it to jpg, painting the unexplored regions in by hand, save as a layered PSD, place it back in Illustrator and add the labels. So the process is easy enough but I'm still having a bit of trouble with this one. Can't really put my finger on it. Should I try and make the unexplored areas the same color as the land? So as to more closely resemble what the Vikings thought the world looked like? Should I go for a more historical look and feel (with Viking ships, dragons and sea monsters... part of me wants to give that a try...)
Background music during the mapping process is of course Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song (although I have to admit I'm a Who-fan... to us Zep is... well... cute...)
