Roads are considered as the measure of the Infrastructure development of the country. Roadway construction planninginvolves dealing with a number of activities and information simultaneously. A large amount of information regarding design,construction methodology to be followed, quantities, unit costs & production rates, etc is to be continuously processed & refined.Doing this manually is time consuming & cumbersome as the size of the projects today has increased manifold. GeographicInformation System (GIS) is a very effective tool for integrating & managing various types of information required for roadwayconstruction planning. This piece of work tries to understand how GIS can be applied for improving roadway construction planning.It also aims at developing a system which can help construction planners to make a proper decision with features like space scheduling & activity sequence visualization process.
