India adds 7 GW of renewable energy capacity in FY2015-16

The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has reported that India added 6,937 MW of grid-connected renewable energy capacity during FY2015–16, that's over 2% of* India's total power generation capacity on 31 March 2016 of 298 GW.* 43 GW or just over 14 % of India's total capacity is renewable energy projects.* The new renewable energy added exceeded planned additions in all categories.

Total grid-connected wind capacity added was 3.3 GW.* Total grid-connected wind energy at the end of the last financial year was 26.7 GW.* In addition 3 GW of grid-connected solar power capacity was added.

For the vast numbers of Indians with no access to grid power, a total of 87.7 MW of off-grid solar power capacity was added. The total off-grid solar power capacity in India now stands at 314 MW, about 0.1 % of total grid capacity.
