Extract a Profile from a Grid is a commonly used and very useful function. We've looked at how to display profiles along sections before.
You can use the GRIDPROF GX to extract a data profile from a grid and place it in a new line of the current database. This capability can be useful for a variety of applications including modeling and removing local trends during gridding.

Here's how it works:
- Start with your grid displayed on a map. Go to Grid and Image > Grid Utilities > Grid Profile...
If you do not have a current database, then you will be prompted to enter a name for a new database that will be created for your profile output. - Select up to 5 grids and enter a New line name.
- Specify the location by digitizing on the map, or manually using one of the other options.
- The grid(s) will be sampled to a new line in the database.
