Hello to everyone! One year ago I finalized a new arrangment of an old idea: the conformal projection of the entire globe on an octahedron (Cahill, http://www.genekeyes.com/Cahill-Projections-pt.2.pdf). With a huge graphic tools work I realized this night view of the earth and that's my first version of the Cahill-Concialdi bat projection!
I'd love to create new versions of this view but it needs a lot of time since I didn't create that automatically... I think this is a nice arrangment, maintaining all northern emisphere united with the usual Russia-Alaska separation and maintaining Australia and New Zealand in the same part. The map is conformal and the area average error is 20% and much less in all continental areas exept Antarctica.
