Abstract:

Water resources are of paramount significance for the life of all living creatures. This fact has been documented in the Holy Quran when Al-mighty Allah says,: "We made from water every living thing," 30 Al-Anbiyaa. Accordingly, it is important to take care of these resources which we increasingly depend on beside their active role in ensuring a safe future economy for any geographical location. On this basis, the study we present a contribution in the field of water resources as it attempts to investigate the natural factors in the region which is situated within the West plain in Iraq with an area of 3254 (sq. klm).

The study has given a clear picture of the variation in the quantitative characteristics of water drainage in the Euphrates. Moreover, the study has contributed in determining the relationship between the amount of water harvest, the shape of the water reserves in the lake of Haditha Dam and the amount of absolute water drainage released from Haditha Dam Hydrology Station for the period from 1985 to 2016. The yearly seasonal, monthly and daily water variation of drainage for each of the years covered in this study was investigated. It has been clear that the reasons for this variation include natural factors represented by a reduction in feeding rain or snow sources into the reservoir of the river or human factors represented by control & storage projects such as dams. Moreover the reflection of this variation on the immediate & future human uses within the study area has also become clear.

The study has revealed the qualitative characteristics of the Euphrates river according to features of the humid medium and dry years. The decrease in the level of water drainage throughout the years and months of draught leads to the increase in the concentration of the physical of A drained elements in the river water. These elements work into changing the features of properties of this water of restrict its suitability for the various human uses. However, by conforming with the national and international criteria, this water is current suitable for human use although with different ratios of degrees corresponding to the outcomes of classification.

Finally, the various uses of water in the district for the years 2010 to 2016 has been studied. The yearly average of water consumption in the study area in accordance with the specified criteria for each use in these two years was 104483957 and 93915371 cub/met./year, respectively. The industrial uses on top of the list with 62208000 and 6912000cub/met./year for the years 2010 and 2016, whereas house uses came the second with 8261640 , 9516780 cub/met./year for the years 2010 and 2016. As for the consumption of water for livestock uses in the district, it was 21791 and 242975 cub/met./year 2010 and 2016.

In addition, the future vision for land uses and their water needs had also been studied. It has become clear that the study area has the potentials to achieve the spatial development in expanding agricultural, industrial and tourist projects as well as active economical development in the sound of national administration of surface water. The study ends

up with the findings and recommendations.
